@ Shannon, Four months of bike riding through NC and Peru? Wow, how awesome would that be! That sounds much more fun than my sabbatical! And yes, I can imagine how difficult it would be to get back into work mode after that.

@ Alex, I thought of you when I was writing this!

@ Emma, I've found when I'm stressed I often don't think of taking a break. I get so caught up in the "I've got so much to do and so little time" mindset that I forget that a break will actually help me be more productive. I hope the stress has passed for you and you're feeling better! :-)

Oh this is so true, and something I am woefully incapable of. I think I've forgotten how to relax properly, and I have just so stressed over the last few days that I have had to enforce a break on myself. I should have stopped sooner, but I'm always fiddling with something.

Ironically, when I worked for someone else, I took more breaks, holidays and switched off at the end of the working day (from the job anyway). Now I work for myself, I am realising how tough on myself I am, and that needs to change! Thanks for the reminder.

You *know* I'm all over this post! Glad to see the push for entrepreneurs to take time off appearing in other spots. Far too many of us think we can't take a break without killing the business.

BTW - I read your comments about spicing up blogs at Men with Pens (http://menwithpens.ca/drive-by-shooting-start-being-your-best) and they were brilliant.

Agreed. Working 24/7 is the quickest way to burn out and lose creativity. A day off (two, better yet) each week is a much needed respite for me. On the other hand, too much time off can sometimes be difficult to come back from. Like you, I took a 4 month break last year to ride a motorcycle from my home in North Carolina to Peru. Wow, was it ever a challenge to get back into work mode after that!
