Stop Press!! The lovely Tina Forsyth has offered to give away a second copy of “Becoming an Online Business Manager”! So this month we have TWO COPIES to give away. Thank you Tina!
During the first week of each month we give away a business book to a reader of this blog. All you need to do is leave a comment on this post. At the end of the week I’ll draw a name from the comments (or my daughter will!) and the lucky winner will be announced here. I’ll post the book anywhere in the world, so the giveaway is open to everyone!
This month we’re giving away “Becoming an Online Business Manager” by Tina Forsyth.
From the website:
Calling all Virtual Assistants and online support professionals
Business Owners Are Lining Up to Hire a New Level of Management Support – Will You Be Ready When They Come Knocking?
If You Have Ever Wanted More From Your Virtually Based Support Business, Now is the Time
Are you ready to step-it-up and play a bigger game with your clients?
Online businesses are growing at an alarming rate, and many online business owners find themselves ‘tapped out’. They simply can’t do it all themselves anymore and are desperately seeking someone to help them grow and manage their business – they are looking to hire an Online Business Manager (OBM).
Read inside to discover:
• What clients are asking for and why they want to hire an OBM
• If you are a potential OBM (take the Online Business Manager Aptitude and Attitude Assessment)
• The 2 key OBM characteristics that will make you stand out from the crowd!
• How you will serve your clients as an OBM (roles and responsibilities)
• How to work for fewer clients and still make an excellent income (escape the time for money trap!)
• The good, the bad and the (not so) ugly – real life as an OBM
• How to know if a business owner is ready to work with an OBM (not everyone is ready, even if they think they are)
• The best way to get started with new OBM clients
If you run an online business – this book is for you. If you use a VA – this book is for you. If you are a VA – this book is for you. It’s a great read, full of interesting and highly applicable and effective ideas for managing your online business, or your clients online businesses.
I’ll be drawing this month’s winner on Saturday 6th June. So leave a comment and at the end of the week we’ll find out who the lucky winner is!

This month’s winners, selected by www.random.org are:

I think every small business owner has been guilty of thinking they have to do it all themselves, from sales to marketing to production to bookkeeping. The truly successful business person learns how to delegate (and how to trust those she delegates to). Sometimes just letting go is the hardest part.

I couldn’t agree with Cindy more! I was getting ready for a festival that was my turning point on letting go. Fortunately, I got to also see what happens when you don’t let go and delegate properly! I lost out on showing a lot of product that I was most excited about taking because the person I hired to help me with it, just completely flaked out on me. She faked it for well over a week before admitting it. At this point, it was really too late for me to do anything except shed a tear of frustration and anxiety for a minute but then I said, “Oh well!” I couldn’t do anything about it. I couldn’t change anything except ONE thing…how I approached this type of situation in the future.

I’ve known Tina and her work for a while and she’s awesome! I have someone in mind right now that I’d like to give this to as a gift if I won it.

Sounds like a good book for me because in Gerber’s eMyth small business mix – I’m the Entrepreneur and the Technician but not the Manager – I could learn a lot about how to become a better OBM for my own business!

Now is definitely the time to be a VA. So many people are jumping on the “outsourcing” bandwagon (including myself) and it’s unbelievable how it saves your time, money AND sanity! I finally found someone full time and it was extremely surprising to me when I realized how hard it was. I looked for a loooong time.

I feel the same way as Alex, my online business is only 5 weeks old but already I am wondering how on earth I am going to do everything (and I have a nagging suspicion that my idea of ‘everything’ is inadequate and I’ll miss something important as a result!).

I agree wholeheartedly, it is hard to delegate and let go when you are a small business owner, even when you are automating a manual process! Sounds like there are valuable ideas for all here.

Alex speaks my mind as well, Emma. This looks like a great resource for anyone in online business.
(And don’t fret – I think everyone feels like they’re not doing as much as they ought to, even the most successful entrepreneurs. I’m pretty sure it’s part and parcel of running a business.
