@ Mel Ed (Dale) is Australian yes and he’s the most down to earth and honest Internet Marketer I have ever seen.

The other public figure is Dan Raine and he’s a Brit. From Manchester to be exact and another down to earth and honest guy. There is a 3rd, Rob (GuruBob) Somerville. I believe he’s a Yank and yes he too is just as nice as the other two

This will be my 3rd year in the challenge. I haven’t made money directly but as it turns out after last year’s challenge I have found a way to make money from it

@ Barbara. Oh for the good old days! I should have said that I wanted to hear from someone doing it now! A few years ago it was possible, and I certainly won’t argue that. However as you said, times have changed – but the sales of affiliate marketing programs and promises of easy riches continue as if they haven’t.

I hear you on the hype, or lack thereof. Sigh.

@ Tracy. Sorry hon, didn’t mean to disappoint you. We’d love to see more of you around here, as long as you don’t bring and canned food with you… LOL!

(for those who don’t know, Tracy has posted a couple of taste tests on her blog – whole chicken in a can, pigs brains in milk, totally gross stuff like that. I blame my vegetenarianism on her! Check out her blog, you’ll love it – well, you’ll either love it or throw up)

I followed the Million Dollar Pixel saga quite closely. Brilliant idea – the guy also had hired a PR individual to get the word out too. That, more than anything, really helped with the tipping point; it took him several months.

My million dollar idea? Show how easy it is to define the process for being profitable online and actually sell that WITHOUT resorting to hype. My dream is to sell without having to hype. My nirvana involves people who see the benefits WITHOUT having to resort to hype.

Did I mention, sell without hype?

Alas, the past 10 years has shown me…without hype, things almost always die an agonizing painful death. Sigh.

Anywhos, regarding your question about making money with affiliate products….I cleared 250K in 2004 and 2005 via affiliate marketing and fed/housed/clothed my kids via this money. I did this because I broke the Google code and was able to rank in the top 10 for any keyword (I’m talking ANY) I so desired. Thus, I build a script that would automatically build a site based upon keywords and churned out 100s of portal sites that ranked high back then.

Each page had links to Amazon and eBay affiliate products…and those certainly did boost up my income big time.

Ranking high now like that requires other SEO qualities (like inbound links, authority, etc.) so those days are long gone, sigh. Ever since then, I’ve written products/built sites and am now currently running a forum.
